Free Home Energy Assessment - possibly free LED bulbs, showerheads and more!

If you live in Massachusetts and are a customer of Columbia Gas, Eversource or National Grid, you may be eligible for a free (virtual) home energy assessment! Typically these are done in person, but are temporarily conducted virtually due to the current pandemic.

My husband and I had a home energy assessment completed many years ago and, at the time, received CFL bulbs to replace all of our incandescent ones, as well as programmable thermostats to replace our non-programmable ones.

Requirements:
You need a smartphone capable of taking and sending pictures.
You'll need to take 15-20 pictures around your home and submit them before your appointment.
You need to be willing to install LED lightbulbs and power strips.
You should be comfortable filling out forms electronically.
You must be a customer of Columbia Gas, Eversource, or National Grid.
You must live in a building with 4 units or fewer.
You can only have an assessment once every three years.

If needed Mass Save will send you no-cost energy-saving LED lightbulbs, showerheads and power strips. Best of all, the cost of approved insulation and other weatherization will be 100% covered by Mass Save!

Pay NOTHING for Energy Star Upgrades

I don't know about you, but the cost of electricity has skyrocketed over the last several years and it's draining my wallet. One way to decrease the cost of this utility is to make your home more energy-efficient.

MassSave offers No-Cost Energy Assessments for homeowners. They'll go through your home with a fine tooth comb and pinpoint areas that will help you save money. Many of these upgrades can be done on site for nothing!

My husband and I are fortunate to have a fairly new home (built in 2000), but the wonderful representative from MassSave was able to install all new ENERGY STAR® LED light bulbs, as well as a programmable thermostat. All for free!

Some other gadgets they can install for nothing:

  • Advanced power strips
  • Low-flow showerheads
  • Faucet aerators

At the end of your assessment, you'll receive a custom home energy report that will include all applicable rebates and incentives, such as:

  • No-cost targeted air sealing of leaks in drafty areas of your home, which may include your attic, basement, living space, and attic ductwork
  • Based on your income, an instant incentive for 75 percent off approved insulation improvements (up to $2,000) or 90 percent off approved insulation improvements (up to $3,000)
  • An instant incentive for 75 percent off approved duct insulation (up to $1,000)
  • Generous rebates of up to $3,500 on qualifying energy-efficient heating, cooling, and water heating equipment

Shave $$ Off Your Electric Bill - Use Advanced Power Strips

Mass Save and National Grid introduced me to the concept of Advanced Power Strips awhile back. And I absolutely love them!

Advanced power strips (APS) cut standby power loss using distinct outlets designed to save you energy and money while offering all the same features as standard power strips, such as surge suppression. An advanced power strip is able to cut the power to your electronics when they are not being used, saving energy and saving you up to $30 annually.

These are especially great for home entertainment units or computer/laptops and their accessories. Why pay for the electricity to power your printer or scanner if your computer isn't even on? An APS will ensure that the printer is not drawing electricity (or costing you money) if the computer is not turned on.

Right now, Mass Save is offering these at a near 50% discount! Pay only $9.99 (down from $19.95) for an APS! You must be a Mass Save (National Grid) customer residing in Massachusetts to participate.

You must be a National Grid Massachusetts residential electric customer to be eligible. Qualifying equipment purchased between 1/1/14 and 12/31/14 may be eligible, pending availability of funds. Order delivery is restricted to Massachusetts. Limit two advanced power strips per customer per calendar year. An eligible National Grid residential electric account number will need to be entered during checkout. If you do not know your account number, please e-mailnginfo@nationalgrid.com with your name, home address where you have service from National Grid, and home phone number. Offer is valid while supplies last. Offer is subject to change or cancellation at any time, without notice. Some restrictions may apply. Savings and energy efficiency experiences may vary. National Grid does not endorse, guarantee, or warrant any particular retailer, contractor, manufacturer, or product installation. If a product you have purchased is defective, contact the retailer or manufacturer.

Save On Your Electric Bill - Win A Cost Cutting Advanced Power Strip!

Do you hate rising electric bills? I could NOT believe that my bill this month was over $100 for the second month in a row and there are only 2 full-time employed adults in our house. I started to think about ways to reduce my electric bill because we simply cannot afford many more months of $100+ bills.
Did you know that some electronic devices like televisions and alarm clocks,  continue to use electricity to power peripherals such as remote controls and clock displays even when they are turned off? Many people don’t realize that this “phantom” load, or standby power loss, can account for approximately 5 to 10 percent of your annual energy cost, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
Advanced power strips (APS) cut standby power loss using distinct outlets designed to save you energy and money, while offering all the same features as standard power strips, such as surge suppression. An advanced power strip is able to cut the power to your electronics when they are not being used, saving energy and saving you up to $30 annually.
With school back in session and the fall season upon us, many of us are spending more time at home – kids doing homework on their computers and connecting with their friends and classmates online, and families watching more TV as the days grow shorter. You can learn more about APS at Mass Save.com:  http://www.masssave.com/residential/lighting-and-appliances/home-electronics/advanced-power-strips
And now, thanks to my good friends over at MassSave, you can win your very own APS!
**To enter, leave a comment here with your first name and the state in which you live. Be sure to comment using a valid email address so I can contact the winners!

There are 2 APS devices available and 2 winners will be chosen via random.org. The giveaway closes on October 1st at midnight EST. Winners will be posted on the website and contacted via their listed email. Winners must respond within 48 hours or another winner will be chosen.
