Save 30% Off Outdoor Christmas Decor - Check out Crab Pot Christmas Trees!

I know Halloween just passed only a few days ago, but I just can't wait for the holiday season to get underway. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and decorating is one of the best parts of the season. But I've never been great about decorating the exterior of my house - my lights usually look like a 5-year old strung them.

I just learned about this great outdoor decoration called the Crab Pot Christmas Tree and I cannot wait to put it in my front yard this year!

Crab Pot Christmas Trees are remarkable, perfectly shaped trees that are pre-lit, fold flat for storage, sparkle from EVERY angle and are easily set up. What makes these holiday trees so unique and the MUST HAVE of the season for home decor? Crab Pot Christmas Trees are made from the very durable PVC Coated Crab Pot Wire which withstands all that Mother Nature throws at it.

Want to see these fold flat Crab Pot Christmas Trees? Check out the fold flat trees in this video, because seeing is believing and this is how you can make the season sparkle with ease.

My Readers $ave 30% Off Crab Pot Christmas Trees that fold flat & sparkle from every angle Use the promo code USFG16 at checkout!

Brick Loot Review and Discount Code

Growing up, my sisters and I loved to play with blocks more than anything. Our mom kept the special LEGOs high up on a shelf so we had to be especially well behaved to be able to play with them. From what I've heard, those little blocks hurt a tad when young ones forget to pick them all up so we had to earn that privilege!

So I was extremely excited when Brick Loot, a subscription company for LEGO and Brick fanatics, offered to send me one of their boxes to check out their great loot.

October's Brick Loot box is based on the theme "Arcade." I grew up in the late 80s - early 90s so this was right up my alley! Totally nostalgic for me!

My box contained a really great tiny LEGO container called "Head Case." Get it? Head-case.... head case? Haha.

Sorry. Moving on...

I also got 2 little kits for building - one for a pixel monster, which reminds me of Pacman from back in the day, and another for building arcade machines. This one came with additional instructions to build even more machines. My favorite piece was the cute Gamer Minifigure - it reminded me of my friends growing up fighting over the Nintendo controller.

If you or someone you know is a fan of LEGOs, then a Brick Loot subscription is the way to go. Think ahead to the upcoming holidays - this would make an amazing gift!

Each month your Brick Loot box is filled with 4-8 items that were hand picked by Brick specialists who scour the world for the newest and coolest products for you to collect. Get custom LEGO kits, minifigures and accessories delivered to your door monthly! Invented by a 9 yr old, this box is fun for ages 6 - 99!

Interested in checking it out? My readers get to save 10% off Brick Loot using the code usfamily

How I Earned Over $300 in Gift Cards through Swagbucks

Christmas is less than six months away. It may too early for most people to start Christmas shopping, but it's never too early to start saving money for that fun Christmas shopping spree in November and December.

Since I started using Swagbucks, I have cashed in on over $300 worth of gift cards - mostly to Amazon but also to Starbucks because Starbucks is one of my expensive vices that I refuse to pay "full price" for.

Using Swagbucks is free, quick and easy! Here's the brief lowdown on Swagbucks.

Swagbucks is a "program" that allows you to earn points (they call them Swagbucks) for doing random tasks. These points can later be cashed in for rewards - they have all kinds of weird trinkets in their Swagbucks Store, but I prefer the gift cards. You can even request Paypal cash!

There are a bunch of other ways to earn Swagbucks, but these are the easiest and cost $0 to you.

Ways to Earn:

Search Engine: If you use their search engine (as opposed to google, yahoo, etc.) you might earn Swagbucks for some of your searches. This is totally random and you're not guaranteed to win each time, nor are you guaranteed an amount when you do win. I've won anywhere from one Swagbuck to 27 Swagbucks for a single search.

NOSO: NOSO stands for No Obligation Special Offers. These can be found on the left side of the main Swagbucks page (literally says NOSO). Once you click, it brings up an offer, which I ALWAYS ignore, then you can click at the bottom of the page where it says "Skip." You do this a bunch of times until you get to the end where it lets you play a brief 10 second video to display a special phrase. Type the phrase into the provided box and voila! You got yourself 2 Swagbucks. You can only do this once per day, but I've gotten in the habit of doing it EVERYDAY!

Daily Poll: The daily poll is also found on the left side of the main Swagbucks page. It's just a quick survey. Once you hit submit, one Swagbuck is deposited into my Swagbucks bank account. Like NOSO, you can only do the poll once per day.

Tool Bar: If you download their toolbar, you'll randomly earn yourself one Swagbuck just for opening your web browser using the toolbar. I don't use the tool bar right now because I recently got a new computer and haven't had time or energy to download it, but I did use it on my previous laptop. It's an easy way to earn Swagbucks without doing anything.

Swidget: The swidget is a widget. Haha. I'm a teacher, I know you're not supposed to use part of the word in the definition! If you scroll down to the bottom of the page on my main blog page, you'll see the Swagbucks Swidget. You can check to see if there's a special code out in the cyberworld. If not, it'll tell you and you can stop looking. If there is one, it'll give you a hint where it is!

Special SwagCodes: Swagbucks often publishes special codes that are worth a certain amount of Swagbucks. When and where these codes are published is very random. Codes are time sensitive and case sensitive. It's best to just copy and paste them, rather than try to type them out.

MA/RI Fireworks Displays - Inexpensive Family Night Out

I've mentioned before that I grew up in the Bristol-Warren area - an area well-known for its crazily patriotic displays and the oldest Fourth of July Parade in the nation. Part of the Fourth of July festivities included oohing and aahing at the fireworks displays at Independence Park in Bristol. It  was an inexpensive, fun night out for my family. My mom would bring a cooler of sodas and juice boxes and a couple of bags of chips and cheese doodles and we'd sit out on a blanket and get eaten by mosquitoes while watching the beautiful fireworks in the sky.

No matter what part of RI or MA you're from, there's bound to be a fireworks display nearby. Check out this list for all of the local area displays and Happy Fourth of July!

DIY Friday - My Father's Day (or Dad's Birthday) Project

I know Father's Day has already passed, but I wanted to show you how easy (and inexpensive) it can be to come up with a cute Father's Day gift. We call my husband "Daddy" at home. Now neither of us have human children, but we do have three furry babies and a late furry baby that we consider our pride and joy.

So every Father's Day, the kids get their Daddy something, but this year we wanted to be a bit crafty and take on a photo project.

Here's our project's inspiration from Brassy Apple

So I ran out to Michael's and bought 3 wooden distressed-style letters spelling out DAD. They were $1.50 each and I had a coupon for 30% off my entire order so I paid a tad bit over $3 for the three letters. We actually used them as decorations for my own father's birthday party later!

I then set out to take my kids' glamour shots. Believe it or not, Riley, our pup, was the easiest to photograph so long as I could keep the wooden block out of his pup mouth!

Our indoor kitty, Zoe, was upset that I disrupted her nap to take her photo.

And our indoor/outdoor adventurer, Selina Kyle, just wanted me to pet her and drool on me. She was the toughest to photograph.

So after a bit of time photographing and laughing my butt off at some of the ridiculous pictures I captured, I finally got some pictures decent enough to turn into a Father's Day gift for their Daddy. I had a coupon for $20 off any $20+ purchase at Shutterfly, so I turned their photos into a card and a really cute mug. *Always check out the Special Offers page at Shutterfly to see what deals they've got going on!

Total cost:
$3.XX for wooden blocks (which I plan to reuse as decorations every Father's Day)
$9.XX for shipping for the mug and card since my coupon didn't include shipping fee)

DIY Friday: Gift Baskets Under $25

Christmas is fast approaching. Have you finished your shopping yet? Typically I'm 100% done before Thanksgiving, but this year I've been procrastinating... And to ice my cake of procrastination, my budget is the tightest it's been in awhile.

Luckily I'm thrifty by nature and an outside-the-box thinker. I love putting together small gift baskets for my friends and family filled with goodies I just know they'll love. Ocean State Job Lot is one of my favorite stores in general but especially for great gift basket goodies. Did you know they carry hundreds of brand name products, too?

Are you on a tight budget too? It is easy to thoughtfully put together a gift basket filled with amazing products for less than $25! Here are just a few ideas:

Gluten Free Baker:
My friend Ginger lives gluten free, yet she loves to bake. She often has only one or two gluten-free baking options when at the grocery store. Ocean State Job Lot carries many gluten free baking products by Bob's Red Mill including pizza crust ($3.69), bread mix ($4.49), cake mix ($3.49), brown mix ($3.99) and chocolate chip cookie mix ($4.49). Add a few different types of baking mixes, some really cute potholders and maybe a cookie sheet or a beautiful enamel loaf pan and you've got yourself an inexpensive, yet delicious gift basket.

Grill Master:
Remember Emeril from Foodnetwork? His amazing products have made their way to Ocean State Job Lot and boy are they yummy! For your grill master, try some of Emeril's Kicked Up BBQ sauce ($2) along with some Old Thompson's seasonings that come in a nifty adjustable grinder in flavors like steak burger and Hawaiian black salt ($4.99 each). Toss in some grilling tools like a sauce brush or some tongs and bon appetit!

Tea Lover:
Ocean State Job Lot has almost everything. It even carries Keurig Kcups by brands like Twinings, Tazo and Caribou. Toss in some Twinings ice tea Kcups ($4.99) alongside some Twinings chai Kcups ($5.99) or Tazo Chai Kcups ($7.99). Or if your friend or relative is more into coffee, how about some Caribou Coffee Kcups ($7.99)? Add a few bags of Brookside dark chocolate acai berries or pomegranates ($1.50) and maybe a pair of cozy socks and a cute mug and your gift receiver will be set up to relax on the couch with a good book.

Speaking of good books...

Ardent Reader:
Ocean State Job even has books by well known authors on its shelves! Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors ever and I just found her novel Handle with Care for only $2.99! Your gift receiver is more into sci fi or horror? Try one of Stephen King's novels Under the Dome ($2.99) or Mr. Mercedes ($3.99). My husband is totally into the Duck Dynasty stuff and I'm totally grabbing a book or two from their collection for his stocking - Happy, Happy, Happy; The Women of Duck Commander and Si-cology 101 ($2.99 each). Ocean State Job Lot also stocks a variety of cookbooks at really low prices by famous stars like Paula Deen and Sandra Lee.

Furry Friend
Don't forget about your furry friends when shopping this Christmas. Pick up some treats like Milkbone biscuits ($2), Beneful Baked Delights ($2.49) or Milo's Kitchen chicken meatballs. If your pup is on the smaller side, how about a Snuggle to keep him warm ($2.99)? Does your friend have whiskers instead? A can or two of cat food from famous makers like 9Lives ($.46) or Newman's Own Organic ($.89) are sure to keep them purring. Add a few Nylabone cat toys ($1.50 - $2.49) and some flea and tick preventative shampoo by Off and you've got a well-rounded gift basket that will keep your fuzzy friend happy.

Manly Man
Want to keep the man in your life smelling.... well... manly? Ocean State Job Lot has a ridiculous quantity of brand name bath and beauty products. Fill his stocking or his gift basket with products by Axe, Irish Spring, Dial for Men, Suave for Men and Old Spice.

Beauty Addict
Don't leave out the cosmetic lover in your life. Find cosmetics by Blistex, NYC, Revlon, Almay Covergirl and Milani. There are even full sized cosmetic kits by the well known brand ELF.

Whether you're just starting your Christmas shopping or finishing up those last minute gifts, hop on over to your local Ocean State Job Lot to check out all of their amazing deals. Not only will you be able to get the same brand name products you'd get at your grocery store, you'll keep your wallet a tad bit fuller.

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. I shop at Ocean State Job Lot all of the time anyway and was happy to write this blog post. I did not receive any compensation for this post. All opinions expressed herein are my own.

DIY Friday: 52 Reasons I Love You (A Valentine's Day Gift)

This is totally my version of the Pinterest idea - there are a million examples if you type in "52 Reasons I Love You" on Pinterest. My "daughters" made their daddy a cute little mug with their furry pictures on it and it shipped out 2 days ago from Shutterfly. This is mommy's Valentine's Day gift to daddy.

You need:
a deck of cards
a printer with printer paper
single hole punch
glue
2 binder rings (I still need to grab these from work, but I've been home sick all week)
Optional: stickers or other decorative touches

Directions:
First I came up with 52 reasons why I love my husband. In word, I created a table that was 4 across and 4 down that filled up the page. I used size 25 font for most of it and made the font smaller if needed. You can be as creative as you'd like with this part. Make it a crazy color, or mulit-colored; use different types of font, whatever your heart desires.

Next, I created a template for hole punching by tracing one card on regular paper, cutting it out and hole punching the template. I used this template to hole punch all the cards, 2 at a time.

I carefully cut out my 52 reasons and glued them to the cards. Be careful, regular printer ink will run. If I had the energy and were allowed to leave my house, I might have considered getting it printed at Staples in hopes the ink wouldn't run. Or even laminating the "reasons" before gluing.

Once it's all dry, you can add stickers or other embellishments, then clip them into binder rings.

Yes, I used my coupon inserts to keep glue from getting on my desk, so what?

Hurry! 90% Off Holiday Clearance at Target: Operation Christmas Child

Grab your sneakers, or your snow boots if you're in my neck of the woods, and hurry to your local Target. My Target has all of their holiday merchandise up to 90% off! I grabbed a bunch of stuff, most of which I'll be putting aside until next December for Operation Christmas Child.

I spent $2.96 total, including about $.17 in tax. I used 2 coupons for $1/2 Pillsbury cake mixes or frostings (there were tear pad coupons my mom gave me awhile back). The frostings were only $.45 each and the coupon took the full $1 off, so I actually "made" $.20 for buying the 4 frostings. Not shown is a box of religious Christmas cards. I bought the same box of 40 cards last week for $1.20 and they were $.40 today, so I returned the new box I bought with my old receipt still in my purse and got $1.28 back! :-) Yes, this is completely legal.

Breakdown
2 felt stockings $.10/ea
2 packages of holiday tattoos $.10/ea
2 packages of holiday erasers $.10/ea
2 packages of snowflake rubber bracelets $.10/ea
Dora loofah $.19
2 packages of holiday themed foam stickers $.50/ea
2 packages of Christmas tree crayons $.29/ea
box of 40 religious Christmas cards (not shown) $.40
4 frostings $.45/ea
-$1/2 frostings x 2
+tax
=$2.96

The Low-Down on Swagbucks: Start Earning Rewards for NEXT Christmas!

I know once in awhile I drop the word "Swagbucks" on my Facebook page or on this blog without realizing that you may not really know what I'm talking about. I used to post about Mega Swagbucks Day every Friday, but even I got bored reading the same crap every week, so I stopped.

But just as a reminder to those of you who would like to earn some extra something something for the upcoming holidays, here's the brief lowdown on Swagbucks.
